Wokulo Sketch

I haven't done a good old pencil sketch in a while, mostly its all digital sketching and my external hard-drive is one big sketchbook. Of course I realised this wasn't such a great thing so I whipped out a new sketchbook I got for Christmas, flicked through my copy Encyclopedia of Fantasy Creatures and picked a random critter.
I got the Wokulo:

"In the folklore of Mali in Africa, Wokulo is a dwarf about 3 ft high. The Wokulu are said to have large heads with abundant hair...although it is difficult to say how this is known since the Wokulo is invisible! In addition to their invisibility, the Wokulo can see through walls and trees, making them super-alert to dangers. They like stealing food. Despite their diminutive size, Wokulos are strong enough to throw a man in wrestling bouts. They cannot easily be tracked."

Why did my sceptical mind think "Are they not misidentifying baboons or apes?" so this African dwarf got a baboon like face, with eyes similar to those deep sea fish for his super sight.

Last of the Chibi Primal

Man, I such a human chibis, probably because we all know what human chibis are meant to look like.On their return to Mortalis, both Jen and Lewis receive gifts from their demon partners, though he doesn't look too pleased with his Belahzur toy. Suppose Bel' couldn't write a note with those long fingers, so instead he marked it with bites and drool to show his pal how much he meant ... at least I hope that's drool. ... ewww!
This is what I imagine Belahzur would leave as a message:
" Dearaooor Lewwiisiss
Blahh ga rooolll bbbaaa dipp grawwwhhh! *raspberry* "
Just for the record, I would buy a Belahzur and Scree doll!

I knew from the get-go these two were going to pain me. How do you paint two gas-faces in a cartoon style and give them expression? Sigh! As for the chess reference, I always imagine Gods/Higher Forces playing with lives like chess pieces, so it flowed into this - besides I needed something for them to do rather than float on a blank background.




Oh, Abdizur! Why you have so many spines! Such a pain! Someone give Scree an umbrella!

Pesticaudasaur (Sketch)

A fictional azhdarchidae pterosaur species that came from a Pick-a-mix selection of the character Cluny the Scourge and Pterosaur. I also wanted to try out my Coral-Erase pencils for the first time (I love them already! Adds of bit of life and colour to an otherwise monotone sketch).

I was in a pterosaur mood (as seen in a previous sketch), anyway, so it was lucky I got that result. That combined with my favourite fictional character made this an interesting sketch. To the left are some brainstorming sketches to get an idea for the head. As you can see I combined the first with the forth.

Everything about this guy is about intimidation, with its stabbing beak, 'eye' marking on the crest, and the bony growth from the torso for chest bumping/stabbing other males.

Name Origin: I name thee Pesticaudasaur ! Which is Scourge (Pestis) Tail (Cauda) and Lizard (Saur), don't take this as an exact translation because I just ripped the words from the Latin dictionary. Could have gone for Clunisaur (after the character it was based from), but Clunis is a Latin word meaning "Buttocks", lol.

Foxrim

This was for a watcher on DeviantArt who wanted a painting of two fox characters in a romantic pose. It was also a good chance for me to try Rim lighting (hench the 'rim' in the title, nothing to do with Skyrim, haha!)

Fictional Pterosaur

A 25 minute sketch. I can't really say much else, only that I may have had the idea of this being a nocturnal pterosaurs, judging from the large eyes.

The Helot and the Duke's Phantom

The Duke's Ghost is basically bitching about...well, everything... and good ol' Helot-guy has nothing better to do than sit an listen. (Get a job!)

I never knew what to make of this no-name Waith peasant despite him sacrificing himself to save his people he did try to kill you after you saved his life after all (not to mention both fighting against the same enemy)... he's a prick, in other words.
The Duke, whom we never see in the flesh (literally), peaks my curiosity more so. An aristocrat that showed kindness to the helot class, that enough is to set him apart. Its a shame we only got to see his ghost and bones, he would have been quite an interesting character, I imagine.

Empusa and Raum

I think Raum is more interested with how his 'tush' looks in an off-screen mirror than posing for a portrait.

My favourite couple! And what rich-basterds don't delve into acts of Vampirism... ... Raum should make a cameo appearance in Twilight, to show Edmund (or whatever his name is) how to be a good blood drinker.

Raum: "No! HBO's True Blood! Gore and Sex, wooo!"

Empusa was a pain to do. I only just realised that she has swords (fricking swords!!!!) in her head-wear! Does she have shoes made out of axes as well?
