I think I won't bother with the individual posts of process of the paintings anymore, seeing as it is a bit pointless when I'm doing videos and seeing as I just want to get my head down and finish things more than I'm concerned about updating this blog. I'll just post the process with the final image.

So this is the final thing. That rock/wall was more annoying than it should be. I'm not to thrilled with it, I have to admit.

Blueboots: Part 1

Having the big book, the Ballad of Rango: the Art and Making of an Outlaw Film delivered to my door today I couldn't help but get into a western mood. Brainstorm this broad genre I wanted to paint something a bit different and quirky (not surprising seeing as it was Rango that inspired me in the first place), but it quickly became too bizarre and ridiculous, from a cowboy rustling stegosauruses to riding a jack-rabbit. Eventually the idea of a giant rattlesnake stuck (haha, Rattlesnake Jake anyone?), at least it fitted with the scene. Below is thumbnails exploring the composistion I had playing around in my head.

Another form of inspiration unexpectedly came when I was chilling on Doll Divine and was clicking "Random Outfit" on the Adventurer Maker Game and I ended up with this nifty look. For some reason the blue boots made me chuckle, picturing a buff cowboy making his final stand... in blue boots. The scarf is also something I wouldn't have thought could work in a western outfit so I'll give that a go. Below is also a colour thumbnail.

I wanted to see if I could finish this painting in one day so I got my head down and drilled through it. Adding the colours was probably the most tricky part, using Soft Light and Overlay filter while trying to keep the tonal quality. Photoshop was better for this. Now that I looked over the final thing (its now the morning after) I'm not sure about the scale texture on the tail... I think its a bit too much. But other than that I'm happy with everything else.

Chimera: Part 1

Flicking through my old Foundation Diploma sketchbook I felt the urge to revise my Chimera project. With a few thumbnails that were similar to the second painting in my series of three, but it seemed pointless to, basically, re-paint the painting. So I mixed it up, taking inspiration from the first painting with the skull, but instead with the scientist's skull instead of that of the creation. Like the paintings before it I want the painting to have a dark tone, but with a cool green colour palette rather than the warm umbers.

ArtRage is my weapons of choice. So far its been enjoyable painting with the thinner setting to 95%, though I got to try and remember not to go too detailed, like I have around the mouth that'll be distracting.
