Joker, Luthor and FakeMon

Sketches of Lex Luthor, the Joker and a giant smoke waterfowl with castles built upon it.
I've gone all wrong with my current project, and have to start most of it again (luckily not the background) so I thought it might be good to start something else then come back to it. So I did a Pick-A-Mix drawing, which is literally 3 tubs of folded names, one for Characters (eg, Batman,Final Fantasy Character, Historical Figure) Species/Type (Alien/ Steampunk/ Pokemon) and Theme (Battle/ Summon/ Character Sheet).

What ended up being randomly picked was Cluny the Scourge ... Pokemon (Starter)...and Summon. The three drawings above are the sketches of Clutus, Cluogant, Clucourge. Hopefully this won't take me that long.

Ptera-Feilong Headshots

I have finally gotten around to designing my fictional creatures for my fictional planet Feilong. The Ptera-Feilong could be considered the main species of my novel, as the main character is a female Quez ( all the heads here are of the males, the females tend not to have the crests/horns ). As the sharp eyed among you may guess I've based them from Pterosaurs, as in the dream which inspired this story I was a Ornithocheirus.

These were meant to be the illustrations for the book, which is why they are black and white, with the mind that they'll be printed next to the encyclopedic description that feature in the book. I plan to lay some basic colour on them, which I'll post up with quotes from my novel.

Shadow Swan ( Iscibble )

I suppose this could be considered a tribute to the film Black Swan, which I really want to see sometime.

Sketch Dump # 1

When was the last time I had a good ol' honest sketch dump... August last year! GASP SHOCK HORROR! Some of these are from my sketchbook and other's from Iscribble (which I have started to record with video, here are the links for the Mutant Donkey and the Martian Fungus - yes I spelt it wrong on the drawing.)

The two images on the top are from my sketch book. There's a nice example of "Happy Accident" in the top image where there is some sort of horse-like creature. This sketch was on the other side of the page of the sketch of the dragon (in the second image) and as it was my first experience with using Pro-Markers, I didn't know it bleeds through the page. However, there was some interesting shapes created with the beige colour, so I incorporated it into the design.
The second image are sketches drawn on fabric (except for the dragon, which was placed in the space I have yet to fill using Photoshop's Multiply layer filter) which I found as an interesting experience. Every stroke is permanent, even pencil is hard to erase. The fabric also reacted to the pro-markers (the creepy critter rabbit) and I liked the bleeding.

Reading Issue 66 of ImaginFX and the pages of Justin Gerard I realised that I have very little sketches of human faces. It was sort of a knife prick in the spleen, telling me I should really practice human faces (and hands and other life drawings). So I'll try to stab myself into that routine.

A Ruined Hunter: Part 3 (Basic Back' and Flat Colours)

I've found out recently that doing a basic background first can help direct the main figures and how they are painted (before I used to do the figures first on a *shudder* white background). Of course it will be improved later on, but as a base it works.

A Ruined Hunter: Part 2.5 (Digital Sketch)

Digitally fiddled with and Background added. Adric's tail is bugging me for some reason... We'll see how it goes with it.

A Ruined Hunter: Part 2 (Sketch)

Yet again I find myself running out of paper-space. hah! Oh well, I can digitally sketch the rest now, pencil sketches are only a foundation to work from anyway... Adric's head is a bit triangular... I'll need to round him off a bit. I'll also need to get some background in there...the only reason I haven't pencil drawn it is because I'm not that clear on what I want back there, so I'll play around on Photoshop for the right composition.

A Ruined Hunter: Part 1 (Final Thumbnail Plans)

Well, well, well... here I was trying to practice action shots and I got this. Not exactly action but the point leading up to it, I suppose. This idea just appealed to me more. Besides, it goes with Vipertooth's nature. She's not evil, nor is she good. She is what she is, a member of a carnivorous family of rats, a born Hunter with predatory instincts. She doesn't believe what she does is wrong, justifying her actions with 'natures law of predator and prey'. That's why in the final thumbnail she has her head held high, not low and snarling like a psychopathic beast that revels in its wrong doing ( like the werewolf paintings I was flicking through for inspiration).
Adric, the albino, obviously thinks she's -basically- evil, seeing as she is hunting one of his companions (the rabbit caught on the gravestone). Evil is a point of few after all. I'm sure the lamb condemns the wolf...but does that label it evil?

The Ruin setting is interesting, basically because it seemed more interesting than just a forest or grassland. Besides, I can't remember the last time I've actually DRAWN a complex background. Its shameful, really. Tomorrow I'm planning to go and sketch an old church that I remember on the outskirts of my town (if I can find it that is.), hidden in some wild verge between farmland. Though the English weather might dampen my plans ( PUN ALARM! )
I will also have to write down the narrative for this scene, just so it makes more sense to me and others.

OC Battle. Vipertooth VS Adric (Plan Sketches)

My character, Vipertooth, VS the character from a watcher on DeviantArt, in this case Grace D's character Adric. These two characters suit each other very well as they were both based from Brian Jacques' Redwall books. Vipertooth is part of a fictional Old Age rat species that I call Northen Maned Rats (or Nordic Wolf-Rats, because they have almost canine features.) They are more carnivorous and predatory than the rats we know.
Adric is an albino squirrel that was casted out from his home tribe and attaches himself to groups.
With this in mind the idea of Vipertooth snacking on a pal' of Adric appeals to me (the fourth thumbnail on the image to the left).

I'm really looking forward to this, for one I haven't drawn my dear character for an age and that its an dramatic setting, so this should be fun.

Batman Fan-Character Doodle

VIDEO: When Youtube isn't being a doormat to WGM, I'll re-post it. *sigh*
EDIT: 18 JAN : Here it is... lets just hope it stays there.

I had an hour to kill so I scanned in an inked line art from my sketchbook and coloured it. This is basically me playing around with the style of Jeff Matsuda for fun. This is a Batman fan-character that I once used in a little RPG me and a pal' cooked up. Her body has reacted to the chemical-modified bleach she was force fed, making her sweat, bile and saliva highly acidic/venomous and her lungs full of a poisonous gas. She retreated into Gotham's ancient unused sewer system and tunnels and slinks above ground on the darkest nights through the slums.

Goth in the Storm

^ Goth in the Storm
*sign* finally finished it. Turns out the clouds were easier to do in Photoshop... who knew *shrugs*

Goth: Part 2 ( Clouds and Render )

Yep, those clouds did take me a while, and I'm still not happy with the results. There needs to be more sharper edges on the clouds and with less 'bumps' that I feel is cluttering the image too much.
After doing basic rendering on ArtRage I switched to Photoshop, (by saving the file with .psd at the end to keep the layer information ). I felt I can go into more sharp and detail shading, especially as I have now removed the line art. Such detail and sharp lines are quite hard on ArtRage and the eyes would have taken far more effort than necessary.

Goth: Part 1 ( Sketch )

This sketch had to be edited on Photoshop for the soul reason that my paper was not that long. I may make it even longer, a panorama shot ( I think its called that ), so I can include some background clouds with hints of lightning that play a important part in this bad boy's downfall. I think I may need to tilt him a bit as well... I'll see what it would look like once I've laid basic colour and tone.
I can just tell that the clouds are going to give me some grieve to paint. Hopefully the paint-like quality of ArtRage will help along with these references from ImagineFX magazine.

This is also going to be my first Video Process piece, which I'm really excited about. I don't know what the correct term, but here is an example from the brilliant Mike Nash.

Bat Thumbs

Thumbnails for a Silverwing based piece, using my previous character design for Goth. I've always wanted to draw the final conflict scene between the two protagonists, Shade and Marina, against the two giant cannibal bats , Goth and and Throbb. I think it was the fact that the scene was set inside a storm cloud that made it very dynamic and appealing for me.
It was either watching the trailer for Legend of the Guardians or the trailer for the Silver Surfer that I got this image of Goth emerging from a black storm cloud in epic slow motion. As you can see the first set of thumbnails had Shade (and eventually Marina, for when I read the book again I realised I missed her out) with Goth. However I didn't find these dynamic enough. So I thought about it, watched some movies and thought, "Jez'! Wouldn't a P.O.V shot be good!? Like we were the small runty Shade seeing this monster of a bat emerge from the clouds like a winged vision of death.". .. yeah, I'm that metaphorical with my thoughts.
So I'm going with the last thumb. Just need to decide how those wings are going to be posed.

Thank Zotz for this bat reference.

Pig-Beaver's are invading your rivers!!

______________
^ Castorsus

I decided to do a piece based on a thumbnail from my RoughSketches Sketch book. I chose one at random and it turned out to be a very crude animal that I couldn't even identify. All I could make out is that it looked like a pig with a beaver's tail. With that in mind I decided to do a Beaver and Pig hybrid, both animals exploited by humans for their fur and meat.
I had in mind that this sketch was going to act as the building blocks for a Stencil Print (I don't know the correct term) but found out the design was too complicated for that sort of print so it just got turned into a sketch.
