Reading issue 79 of ImagineFX I was delighted to see James Gurney doing a chapter on how to create fantasy maps. I was eager to have a quick go!
So I made a quick outline and climate-zone painting of my fictional planet Feilong, from a novel I'm writing for my own pleasure. The names are influenced by Eastern words, because in the plot it was the Chinese/Japanese who first spotted the planet with their telescopes. All the events happen around the Human Settlement and I'll probably do a zoomed in map of that area (at the moment I have a rough scribble on scrap paper mapping all the features and events)
Using a random planet generator helped me think of some shapes.
